About Us

About St Stephen's

St Stephen’s RC Primary School is a welcoming, inclusive two-form entry Catholic Voluntary Academy, providing education for children from Nursery through to Year 6.

At the heart of St Stephen’s is our Catholic faith and our mission, “Love one another, as I have loved you.” (John 13:34). Our faith shapes the life of our school and the way we learn, care for one another and serve our community. We want every child and family to feel a genuine sense of belonging, and for every child to be supported and challenged to flourish spiritually, academically, socially and emotionally.

We are proud to serve the community of Droylsden and to be part of the Emmaus Catholic Academy Trust, working alongside a family of Catholic schools united by a shared mission.

St Stephen’s is a large, vibrant school filled with happy, enthusiastic children. We celebrate the diversity of our school community and are committed to ensuring that every child has every chance, every day. As an inclusive mainstream school, our specialist TLC SEND provision further strengthens our commitment to ensuring that children with additional needs are fully included, valued and able to thrive.

We are fortunate to have extensive, award-winning school grounds which provide wonderful opportunities for learning beyond the classroom. These include our allotments, chickens and ducks, outdoor learning spaces and outdoor gym. Our children are encouraged to explore, care for their environment and make the most of the opportunities available to them.

Our parish church is quite literally on our doorstep and is an important part of school life. Children regularly participate in class and whole-school Masses, liturgies and opportunities for prayer and reflection, helping them to grow in faith and understand their place within our wider Catholic community.

Working in Partnership with Parents and Carers

We believe that children achieve their best when school and home work together. We therefore value strong, positive relationships with parents and carers and operate an open-door approach.

If you have a question or concern about your child, we ask that you speak to your child’s class teacher in the first instance. They will usually be best placed to help and resolve any concerns quickly.

If you require further support, you can contact:

  • Nursery and Reception: Mrs Ellison

  • Years 1, 2 and 3: Miss Dempsey

  • Years 4, 5 and 6: Mrs Gibson

Please never feel that a concern is too small to share with us. If something is affecting your child’s happiness, wellbeing or education, we want to know. Our staff will always be happy to listen, support and work alongside you to achieve the very best for your child.

At St Stephen’s, we are proud to be one family and one team — #TeamStephens — where every child is known, valued and encouraged to belong, achieve and flourish.
